MUSLIMS from Cradley Heath are set to declare a jihad against extremism at an annual convention in Hampshire this weekend.

About 100 members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association, based in the town, have joined around 30,000 fellow Muslims to stand united in a pledge to counter “hatemongers”.

They are attending the group’s annual convention - Jalsa Salana - which has attracted people from more than 50 countries.

Association branch president Dr Masood Majoka said it is the largest international Muslim gathering in the Britain and those taking part would “reject violence and present the true face of Islam.”

He added: “Speakers at the Jalsa will also assert that service to one’s country, active citizenship and loyalty are acts of faith. The Union flag will also be raised and a prayer offered for the British nation.

“The occasion is important for building bonds of brotherhood and for re-affirming our belief that faith and national loyalty are certainly compatible.
