THE police helicopter was scrambled to help apprehend four men during a high-speed pursuit who were suspected of trying to burgle a Halesowen business last night.

Four men were arrested after a a pursuit across Sandwell after the reports of an attempted break in at West Midlands Fasteners, Vine Lane at 8.25pm.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “Police were called after a car was used to try and force entry to two businesses on Thursday evening.

“Officers in Dudley received a 999 call at 8.25pm after a group of men were seen to try and force the shutters at the front of West Midlands Fasteners, on Vine Lane, Halesowen. Nothing was stolen from the site, however damage was caused to the premises.

“Around 25 minutes later police in Sandwell received a call after the alarm at CBC Holidings on the Coneygree Industrial Estate, Tipton was attacked in similar circumstances.

“A car was used to try and force the roller shutters to the unit, however the offenders left when the alarm was activated.”

Police on patrol in Bilston spotted a car of similar description as VW Passatt believed to be involved in the crimes at around 9.25pm.

The police spokesman added: “Traffic officers followed the car, which failed to stop, through Parkfields, onto the Birmingham New Road into Lanesfield where the occupants left the vehicle.

“The force helicopter was used to assist with the search, and the men were all arrested in the vicinity of Mount Road shortly before 10pm.

“The vehicle involved in the pursuit has been seized as part of the police inquiry. It is believed to have been stolen from Burton Road, Dudley on July19.”

Detective Inspector Nigel Smith, from Dudley CID, praised police officers for bringing the high-speed pursuit successfully.

He said: “Police across the area quickly passed details between officers which resulted in this car being spotted and four men being detained as part of this investigation.

“We are treating these incidents very seriously and continue to question those in custody with regards to the burglaries and theft.

“We urge anyone with information to come forward and assist the investigation.”

All four males, aged between 14 and 32, remain in police custody this afternoon, helping with enquiries.
