Dudley's Mayor, Halesowen councillor John Woodall, is recovering in hospital after falling at home.
Cllr Woodall fractured his hip after the accident and underwent a gruelling operation at Russells Hall Hospital, where he is still recovering. A pin and a plate were put into his hip to help the fracture heal.
A council spokeswoman said he would need at least four to six weeks to recover and would be in hospital until the end of the week.
