A WINTER warmth scheme that helps people in need has received the thumbs up from Halesowen and Rowley Regis MP James Morris.

He visited Cradley pensioners Barrett and Mary Clement, who were helped out with the funding for a new central heating system by npower.

The company’s Health Through Warmth part paid for the installation of the new system after their boiler broke last year, leaving them without heating or hot water during he winter months.

Mr Clement, aged 78, has diebetes, which worsens in the cold weather, and the couple were able to take advantage of the scheme’s crisis fund, even though they are not npower customers.

Mr Morris said: “npower Health Through Warmth is an important scheme which has helped many vulnerable residents in the West Midlands and it was fantastic to see first-hand the difference the scheme has made to Barrett and Mary.

“Being without heating or hot water during winter is terrible, and just goes to show how vital schemes like Health Through Warmth are.”

Mrs Clement added: “It’s made such a difference, and now we don’t have to stay in the living room to keep warm anymore.”
