A man has landed a court bill of £215 after being caught dumping cider bottles on land in Halesowen.

Anthony Brian Everill failed to pay a fixed penalty notice or turn up in court following the incident last September.

The 44-year-old was spotted discarding the bottles on land next to an electrical substation in Cakemore Road by a police officer in an unmarked car.

Sergeant Martin Hall, who is based in Halesowen, spoke to Mr Everill and reported the matter to Dudley Council.

Mr Everill, who was living at Dormy Hotel, Hagley Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham, was issued with a £75 fixed penalty notice but failed to pay.

Dudley magistrates heard the case in Mr Everill’s absence on Thursday April 5 and ordered him to pay a £100 fine, £100 costs and £15 victim surcharge.

John Millar, director of urban environment, said: “This case shows we work well in partnership with the police in keeping this borough clean and safe.

“It also sends out a clear message to people who dump rubbish – we will do everything we can to catch and prosecute you.”
