A HALESOWEN teacher was given a fond farewell this week after teaching at an Oldbury school for 37 years.

Elaine Davies started work on probation at Perryfields Primary School in 1975 and enjoyed it so much she has only left due to early retirement.

The 57-year-old taught successive generations of local people who turned out with ex-colleagues and pupils for a week of events in her honour.

She said: “It has all been really overwhelming because of all the trouble people have gone to in this last week.

“I would like to thank all my colleagues, ex-colleagues, former pupils and pupils for making it so special.”

Sandwell Council education supremo Councillor Bob Badham attended an assembly in honour of the popular teacher.

She added: “I feel exactly the same today as I did when I started all those years ago the only difference is that I look a bit different.

“I am really looking forward to doing some more travelling during my retirement.”

Headteacher Terry Jones praised Mrs Davies dedication and hard work.

She said: “Elaine has been a fantastic teacher and she will be missed but we really hope she enjoys her early retirement travelling all over the world.”
