Plenty of activites on offer at borough nature reserves

THERE is plenty going on at Dudley Council’s nature reserves during the school holidays.
On Wednesday 8 and Wednesday 29 participants can join wardens and search for bugs and small animals in a minibeast hunt around Saltwells Local Nature Reserve.
The activities run on both days from 10am until 11am and 1pm until 2pm. While on Wednesday 15 from 10am until 12pm and Wednesday 22 from 1pm until 3pm, youngsters can get their hands dirty with natural clay to make their own tree spirits.
Old clothes are recommended to be worn for this messy activity.
All children must be accompanied by an adult and should meet at the car park in Saltwells Lane. To book a place call 01384 812795.
A minibeast hunt will also take place at Cotwall End Valley on Saturday 11 from 2pm to 4pm, during a two mile walk.
Participants should meet on Brockswood Animal Sanctuary car park, at the junction of Cotwall End Road and Catholic Lane. For more information call Sue Bole on 07849 804242.
In Pensnett on Wednesday 15, from 10am to 1.30pm, wardens will lead a guided walk around the Fens Pools area.
The six mile walk takes in countryside and woodland and parts of the canal. Booking is essential by calling Paul Hancox on 01384 812780.
Walkers should meet at the wardens’ office, Dell Stadium , junction of Bryce Road and Pensnett Road, Pensnett.
Activities are also running at Bumble Hole Local Nature Reserve at Windmill End on Sunday 19, with a five-hour trip on a narrow boat.
Participants are advised the journey to Hawne Basin will travel through Gorsty Hill Tunnel, which is dark and cold, so may not be suitable for everyone.

Tickets cost £18 for adults and £4 for children.
Councillor Tracy Wood, cabinet member for environment and culture, said: “There are always activities taking place at the council’s natures reserves but during the summer holidays there are even more events for families to get involved with.”
