THE full set of local Olympians and Paralympians will be at the Halesowen Fun Run next month after wheelchair tennis star Jordanne Whiley confirmed she would attend.

Miss Whiley will join gymnast Kristian Thomas, cyclists Jess Varnish and Helen Scott at the Halesowen and Rowley Regis Rotary Club organised 5k Fun Run on Sunday, September 16.

The Rotary Club has also teamed up with the Black Country Foodbank to help local families in need. Runners will be asked to bring along a canned tin of food along to the event which will be distributed to local families.

Rotary Fun Run organiser Alan Bowler said: “The Black Country Foodbank helps vulnerable individuals and families in crisis by providing three days emergency food supplies.

“Apart from getting sponsorship to support our chosen charities for the Fun Run, if all of the runners were to bring just one item of tinned food with them on the day this would go a long way to help support many local people who are in real need.”

Runners and spectators who would like to contribute can hand their tins of food in to the Rotary’s marquee in Somers Square on the morning of the run. They will then all be collected and given to the Zion Centre.

Mr Bowler said: “Members of the Zion Centre have also offered to assist the Rotary Club with marshalling for the Fun Run and hopefully some of the church members may even be running on the day.”

To register for the fun run simply visit www.h5k.org.uk or www.halesowenrotaryfunfun.org and download a sponsorship form, all proceeds will go to local good causes and charities.
