Rowley Regis man jailed for revenge attack

A 22 YEAR-old Rowley Regis thug has been jailed after he beat a helpless man about the head and body with pieces of wood in a "revenge" attack outside a Blackheath taxi rank.

Matthew Rudge, of Central Avenue was jailed for eight months, alongside Jad Bache, of Bramble Green, Dudley who was sent to prison for 10 month, after they both admitted assaulting Daniel Bristow outside the taxi firm in Bassano Road.

Recorder Tracey Lloyd-Nesling, who heard the incident had been caught on CCTV said it was a "sustained" attack and added: "You persisted in assaulting him while he was on the floor and while he was completely defenceless."

Bache and Rudge left Mr Bristow nursing cuts to his head after a number of blows to the head.

Prosecutor Howard Searle told Wolverhampton Crown Court how earlier that evening it was alleged Mr Bristow had assaulted Bache who later linked up with Rudge to go out and get his own back and used pieces of wood they had picked up on their way to the scene.

Mr Roy Patterson for father-of-one Rudge told the court the offence was "completely out of character" and he was deeply ashamed and full of remorse for his actions.

Mr Bernard Porter defending Bache said he had been drinking heavily and stressed he would not have been involved in the attack but for the earlier incident.

The court was also told that at the time of the attack Bache was on bail after he was involved in a violent incident in Birmingham.
