Halesowen and Rowley Regis MP James Morris has taken his training schedule to the corridors of power to prepare for the first Halesowen Fun Run to be held around the town’s streets.

The MP has been exercising in and around Parliament to help get ready for next week’s event to support local charities.

Mr Morris joins Halesowen’s Olympic and Paralympic stars Jordanne Whiley, Kristian Thomas, Jess Varnish and Helen Scott, who have already confirmed that they will be attending the Halesowen and Rowley Regis Rotary Club organised 5k Fun Run on Sunday, September 16.

The event will raise money for Midlands Air Ambulance, Macmillan Cancer Support and Birmingham Children’s Hospital as well as many other local charities.

Participants and spectators are also being asked to bring along a tin of food to donate to the Black Country Food Bank to help vulnerable individuals and families in crisis.

Mr Morris said: “Apart from a few games of cricket and delivering leaflets, most of my exercise comes from trying to keep up with my two children and so I thought I had better get a bit of practice before the event.

“I’m really looking to the Fun Run, which will be a great event for the town, while supporting some fantastic local causes.

“I hope that everybody will come along, bring their families and run, walk or toddle their way around the course.”

Rotary Fun Run organiser Alan Bowler added: “I am delighted that our Member of Parliament and our local Olympic and Paralympic athletes have added their names to all of the local families who have already signed up to take part on September 16.

“We’ve had fantastic support from across the community – from local people, community organisations and traders – as well as sponsorship from a wide range of local businesses to make the event possible.

“We are on course to have more than 200 people taking part, which is a great response for the first ever fun run to be held through the streets of Halesowen, and every runner will receive a medal from an Olympian when they cross the finishing line.”
