Further remand for son accused of holding mother at knifepoint

A 41-year-old man accused of holding his elderly mother at knifepoint in their Oldbury home has been further remanded in custody.

Richard Hughes is charged with falsely imprisoning his 78-year-old mother, Dorothy, at their bungalow in Perry Hill Road, in March.

He has still not made a plea to the charge and when his case came before Wolverhampton Crown Court again today it was adjourned until October l.

Andrew Jackson, defending, told Judge Martin Walsh they were still waiting for a psychiatrist's report he says is vital before the case can be concluded.

The judge ruled the case could be mentioned again when it was known the psychiatrist's report would be available so they could "take stock" of the situation.

Hughes was scheduled to appear via a video link from the prison where he currently being held but that was cancelled and the short hearing was conducted in his absence.
