FILM fans had the time of their lives when Westfield Merry Hill staged a rare drive-in screening of smash hit 80s flick Dirty Dancing.

The much-loved 1987 movie starring Jennifer Grey as Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman who falls for holiday camp dance instructor Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze) was shown on a big screen outside the shopping mall on Friday September 7.

A host of dedicated moviegoers flocked to the event which kicked off Merry Hill’s autumn and winter fashion campaign.

Among those attending was newly engaged Gemma Farrell who was celebrating her big announcement with a picnic with friends Claire Penn, Gemma Shilvock, Rachael Dycle, Shelley Walker and Gemma Berlyn - all from Birmingham.

Kelly Reed, marketing manager at the centre, said: “Everyone absolutely loved the showing of Dirty Dancing at our drive-in last Friday.

“We had lots of families and couples turn up, as well as groups of ladies celebrating a special occasion or just having a well-deserved girls’ night out.”

A spooky Halloween-themed drive-in treat is now being planned for October.

Merry Hill's Fashion Takeover weekend will see the centre transformed into a hub of fashion, beauty and entertainment on Saturday September 15 and Sunday September 16.

Dance troops will be taking to the malls showcasing the latest trends while Fountain Square will be revamped into a beauty and fashion zone with mini makeovers and style tips on offer to shoppers.
