5:06pm Tuesday 11th September 2012 in News
THREE Oldbury yobs who left a Good Samaritan for dead in the street after launching a vicious attack on him have been locked up for a total of 11 years.
Sean Madden, Matthew Lewis and Luke Burgwin attacked total stranger Tom Green kicking him numerous times in the head and dragging his body around like a “rag doll.”
Mr Green, aged 26, had gone to help a man he had spotted with blood on his face when the incident happened.
Rhiannon Jones prosecuting told Wolverhampton Crown Court the men “took umbrage” as to what Mr Green was doing.
They surrounded him as he tried to get away before pushing him to the floor and brutally punching and kicking him.
Mrs Joanna Bevington who witnessed the attack told police, "I could hear him shouting and screaming.
“The attack was so horrific that I felt faint and I had to sit down on the bed."
Mr Beston Mohammed, another witness, said: "They were kicking and punching him extremely hard. It was relentless. “They must have hit and kicked his head at least 20 times.
"I saw two men dragging him away by the legs like a rag doll in the street, arms outstretched and not moving."
The attack left Mr Green with serious facial injuries including a fractured eye socket but the court was told he had since made good progress.
Madden, aged 22, of Princess Road, Oldbury admitted wounding Mr Green with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm and he was jailed for five years eight months.
Lewis, aged 20, of Salop Road, Oldbury pleaded guilty to the same charge and he was sent to a Young Offenders Institution for four years.
Burgwin, 22, of Hilltop Road, Oldbury pleaded guilty to wounding having only kicked the victim once and was sent to a Young Offenders Institution for two years.
Bernard Porter defending said all three defendants who were arrested near the scene of the attack by police blamed alcohol and drugs for their actions.
