Blaze destroys roof at empty Cradley Heath factory

FIREFIGHTERS tackled a major blaze which destroyed most of the roof of a disused factory in Cradley Heath last night.

Five pumps attended the fire at the single storey former Rainbow Upholstery premises in Woodhouse Way.

Pneumatic cutting gear was used to force entry through roller shutter doors and firefighters had to deal with suspected asbestos roof panels.

A West Midlands Fire Service spokesman said 80 per cent of the roof was damaged. No-one was hurt and the cause is being investigated.
