Halesowen students to make big strides for youth centre
11:42am Thursday 4th October 2012 in News
BIG-hearted Halesowen students are gearing up for an epic sponsored run to raise money to help equip a youth centre.
Leasowes’ year 11 boys, Rhys Murphy, Connor Banner, Kieran Brookes, Mobasher Iqbal, Wahidur Rahman and Rhys Boswell will run 70 miles on a treadmill in the school’s fitness suite tomorrow.
They hope to raise more than £100 towards new recreational equipment at the Greenhill Youth Centre, Long Lane.
Asda’s Quinton superstore is supporting the event by providing the group with refreshments to keep them fed and watered as they run the equivalent distance of Halesowen to Nottingham Forrest.
The school’s mentoring services manager, Chris Bennett said: “At Leasowes we are keen to support our young people who wish to invest in their community by undertaking fundraising.
“These students are a credit to our organisation and we are all in support of their venture.”
Any one who wishes to sponsor the students concerned can contact Mr Bennett at Leasowes on 01384 816 285.
