A GOOD Samaritan came to the aid of a grandmother who was mugged in Cradley Heath in front of her four-year-old grandson.

The man helped the victim, who had her gold necklace snatched, and then drove around the area looking for the thief.

The incident happened on Wednesday, September 19 at around 2.30pm and police are appealing for witnesses including the good Samaritan.

Detective Constable Mick Clark, from Sandwell CID, said: "This was a brutal attack which has left the victim very distressed and worried about leaving her house.

"We are trying to trace this witness to see if he has any further information which will help us with the investigation and also to thank him for coming to the assistance of the victim."

The thief is described as a black man in his early twenties, just under 6' tall and of stocky build with a broad chin and piercing eyes.

He was clean shaven and wearing a black jacket, which was tight around the waist and the cuffs, with the hood worn up. He also wore dark blue jeans and trainers.

The stolen necklace is quite distinctive with a chain made of 2cm cylinders and balls in between each one. A heart shaped pendant hangs from it. The victim has owned the necklace for over 25 years, and is of great sentimental value.

DC Clark added: "We would also like to hear from anyone who may have been offered this piece of jewellery for sale within the last month."

Anyone with information is urged to contact DC Clark on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
