Variety show raises a grand for cancer charity

A CHARITY variety show at a Cradley club was hailed a success after raising £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The gig at the town’s sports and social club was organised by one man band entertainer and throat cancer survivor Brian T Williams.

“It was a great success and I’d like to thank all those who took part and supported it,” he said.

Mr Williams, from Colley Gate, was diagnosed with the disease in 2009 after 35 years of performing on cruises and around the world.

But following treatment he is now in remission and for the last six months has been playing bass with local band Beechwood, which played at the charity night earlier this month.

Also on the bill was comedian Ollie Spencer, guitarist and instrumentalist Ian Lockyer, comedy ventriloquist Paul Levent, vocalist Vivi Caan and acoustic guitarist and vocalist Jeff Maybury.
