Singer Esther Turner.
TALENTED Halesowen singer Esther Turner has been given the thumbs up by judges at the Open Mic UK auditions, making it through to the regional finals.
The 17-year-old A-level student at Halesowen College hopes to strike a chord with judges in Watford on October 28 to secure a place in the national final at London’s 02 Arena.
Esther, of Highland Ridge, said: “I do a lot of singing at festivals, pubs and weddings and when I saw this opportunity on Facebook I thought I’d have a go.”
She was one of thousands of hopefuls who entered nationwide and one of hundreds who queued on the day for their turn to impress the judges at their auditions.
Esther, who is studying textiles and music, describes her style as pop rock and will perform her own material, also playing her acoustic guitar.
The competition searches for the UK’s best singers, singer/songwriters, rappers and vocalists of all genres who perform either covers or original material in three age categories.
