A HALESOWEN senior citizens centre will be looking blooming marvellous thanks to its members.

People attending the senior citizens drop in centre in Andrew Road raised £100 to buy spring bulbs including crocuses and snowdrops.

The blubs have been planted in a small grassed area outside the centre on the Queensway to mark the Queens Diamond Jubilee.

Funds were raised through raffles, bring and buy sales and donations.

Belle Vale Councillor Jill Nicholls, who co-ordinated the project with the centre’s founder member Elsie Maybury, helped senior citizens and the council’s Greencare staff plant the bulbs last week.

Cllr Nicholls said: “I think it is wonderful the members raised so much money considering it struggles at times for visitors to attend.

'The bulbs will enhance the centre’s frontage and provide a splash of colour in the spring.”

New visitors are welcome. Volunteers are urgently needed to help with refreshments.

Call the centre on from 10am till 3pm on 0121 550 0118.
