STOURBRIDGE choir leader Christa Hugo hopes her festive appearance on BBC1's The One Show will inspire other aspiring singers to indulge their hobby in 2014.

National singing phenomenon Rock Choir were invited to open and close the last ever episode of the programme to be broadcast from White City, London, and Christa, Rock Choir leader for the Stourbridge group, was thrilled to be one of the select few asked to perform.

Christa said: "Rock Choir is a group of community choirs across the UK who make up around 17,000 members nationwide, but the BBC could only cope with 275 of us on the day - so I was really excited to be asked to join in.

"I got to meet presenters Chris Evans and Alex Jones as well as guest Jimmy Carr - and they were all lovely and great fun. It was a fantastic experience."

Stourbridge Rock Choir has been running since September 2012 and has performed at various events including this year's Stourbridge Christmas Lights Switch-On. They have also performed in larger scale national events at Wembley Stadium and Liverpool Echo Arena - and in 2014 they will be working towards their own summer concert at Birmingham's Symphony Hall.

Christa said: "Rock Choir's uplifting ethos of fun, friendship and community spirit is a huge part of its attraction. It helps improve people's self-confidence, and gives them new singing skills, a dynamic new social life and a great sense of fulfilment."

Stourbridge Rock Choir rehearses at Thorns Community College, Quarry Bank, during term time on Thursdays from 8pm to 9.30pm.

There are no auditions and no previous musical experience is necessary.

New members are always welcome.
