COLLEGE students will be tee-ing off in a competition at Hagley Golf & Country Club next week.

Birmingham Metropolitan College’s Centre of Sporting Excellence is holding a Junior Open Golf Tournament for junior golfers on Tuesday July 29 to drive interest forward in the game for young people across the borough.

The open competition starts at 10 am and includes an 18-hole stroke play medal, closest to the pin and longest drive awards.

David Faulkner, Golf Academy co-ordinator at Birmingham Metropolitan College, said: “Our new Golf Academy is going from strength to strength as part of our Centre of Sporting Excellence, allowing school leavers to continue playing the sport they love whilst studying for an academic qualification.

"This tournament has been designed to allow young people to show off their skills in a series of competitions and it will be a great day out for anyone 18 and under who loves playing golf.”

Hagley Golf & Country Club golf professional, Gareth Snelgrove, said: “This will be a great chance for local golfers to play our course.”

Young golf fans who are not at college or looking to take up a place at the Golf Academy are also invited to take part, he said.
