DUDLEY’S religious leaders got together with the borough’s first citizen to send a Christmas message of peace.

Members of the Interfaith Network and Mayor of Dudley, Cllr Margaret Aston, met at Russells Hall on December 16 to launch a new campaign to stand against extremism.

Representatives from the Christian, Hindu, Muslim and Sikh faiths signed a pledge at the hospital’s prayer centre to start their Made To Be One initiative.

Dudley borough’s Interfaith Network vice-chairman, Imam Hashmi Qudoos, from Dudley Central Mosque said: “Many Muslims in this country have been horrified by the violence of IS in Syria/Iraq. We join people of all faiths at this time in working to build a peaceful future together.”

The Bishop of Dudley, the Rt Revd Graham Usher said: “As we approach the celebration of the birth of Jesus at Christmas, we join together as leaders of the different faiths in Dudley, each of us hoping for peace throughout the world. We believe we are made to be one.

“Working for a peaceable future lies at the heart of all world religions. From our different faith groups we commit ourselves to making Dudley a place where all people can live in peace together.”
