A STOURBRIDGE teenager who took part in a brutal gang attack on a young man who was robbed of his mobile phone has avoided time behind bars.

The victim was punched to the ground and savagely kicked in the attack by three men - Wolverhampton Crown Court heard.

Anthony Warner, prosecuting, said 18-year-old Roman Mayar was known to the victim and he was quickly arrested by police.

Mayar, of Vicarage Street, admitted robbery and was given a 21-month custodial sentence suspended for two years.

He was further paced on Supervision for two years and ordered to carry out 200 hours unpaid work in the community.

Judge Martin Walsh told him he was just able to take an “exceptional course” and allow him to keep his freedom as it was clear the crime was completely out of character.

Elizabeth Power, defending, told the court Mayar had now turned his life around and he no longer associated with the two other young men involved in the attack.

He is full of remorse for his actions, she added, as she stressed Mayar was now determined to stay out of further trouble with police.
