AN ANGRY Amblecote woman has hit out at Dudley Council after grass cuttings were left scattered over her drive.

The woman, who lives in Junction Road, Audnam, said it is not the first time her road has been left looking a “complete mess” after the grass verges had been cut by the council.

Councillor Hilary Bills, cabinet member for environmental services, has admitted the council “could have dealt with this issue better”.

The woman first complained to the council about the grass cuttings being left by the grounds maintenance team on the road, the footpath and driveways of Junction Road in early June.

“The green team from Dudley Council are cutting the grass verges outside of our houses but they are leaving the grass all over place,” she said.

“When they came on June 4 I reported it to the council. They got back in touch and said they would do something about it and it was eventually cleared up.

“Then the last time they came the exact same thing happened again. The grass verges were cut, but the cuttings were just left everywhere causing a complete mess.

“It’s an absolute disgrace.”

Cllr Bills responded to the woman’s claims saying: “We take pride in all of our work, and have very high standards in ensuring we maintain a clean and tidy borough.

“We cut around 100million square metres of grass across the borough every year, but clearly, on this occasion we could have dealt with this issue better.

“We have sent a team up to the address and made sure that any loose grass is now cleared away.

The woman also said that when she spoke to a member of the grounds maintenance team, it was claimed the workers are not provided with the equipment to clear the grass.

She said: “They told me they are not provided with either a blower or a brush to clear it up and they are just there to cut it. So with all the tax we pay, are they saying the council cannot afford to buy a brush?”

However, Cllr Bills denies this is the case, saying: “All of our staff are issued with the correct equipment for the job they are asked to do.”
