GREEN-fingered borough folk have the chance to view all that Wollaston Gardeners' Guild has to offer at its annual show.

The free show will take place at St James’s Church Hall, Wollaston, on Saturday, September 5, from 2.15pm.

Throughout the show, a number of flowers, fruit and vegetable produce will be exhibited, with more than 60 classes which the guild’s members can enter.

These include classes of vegetables, fruit, flowers, jams, chutneys, cakes and even photography.

Following the show's opening by guild president Eric Southall, the public will be able to view the exhibits before getting the chance to bid for them in an auction taking place at 3pm.

Adam Greathead, chairman, said: “Last year we had a bountiful show and this year, with the weather being good, I feel we will see an equal amount of excellence - if not better!

“I friendly invite anyone to come along and have a good afternoon with us, and challenge them to leave without having learnt something new about the world of fruit and veg.

“We usually see giant leeks and onions, parsnips over one metre in length and flowers the size of small footballs.

“It is also a great opportunity for people to come along and buy fresh, home-grown produce and bunches of local flowers at cheaper-than-supermarket prices.

Alongside the exhibits, there will be a raffle as well as tea, coffee and homemade cakes on sale.

Adam, 25, added: “We have some very good growers who will be present on show day to answer questions and encourage new growers and exhibitors.

“Anyone who attends and it encouraged by the show can join the guild and would be more than welcome to attend our monthly meetings on the third Monday of the month.”
