CHEERS rang out at the Black Country Living Museum when window cleaner Mark Vaz became the first man to run 53 marathons in consecutive days.
The 31-year-old chose the Dudley tourist attraction to complete his Guinness world record breaking marathon on Friday (August 28).
But he isn’t stopping there – Mr Vaz, from Penkridge, will be keeping his running shoes on until he has completed 90 marathons in 90 days, nearly doubling the official marathon world record.
Mr Vaz has already completed marathons in London, Essex, Cornwall and Wales in his bid to raise £90,000 for two charities - Tommy’s Charity, which funds research into stillbirth, premature birth and miscarriage and Katharine House Hospice in Stafford.
Tommy’s Charity is one particularly close to Mr Vaz’s heart after the support he and his wife received after they suffered their seventh miscarriage this year.
He said: “I want to raise awareness of the issue and of the lack of after-care support given to the couples who go through this tragedy.
“I want to raise £90,000 and I am pretty confident I can do it – I will do it with a broken leg if I have to.”
There will be no respite in the hours between his marathon runs as Mr Vaz will be continuing with his window cleaning rounds throughout the gruelling three-month period, although he is allowing himself the luxury of travelling between jobs in his van.
