MORE known for its displays of glass art, Wordsley’s Red House Glass Cone is showing off all things pastel at its new exhibition.

Nearly 50 pieces of pastel work by 13 Midlands artists – who are part of the Birmingham & Midland Pastel Society – is currently on display at the Bridge Street venue.

Founded in 1982, the society, which exhibits regularly at venues across the Midlands, is rare in its make-up in that it has no members, only exhibitors and a committee run by the exhibitors.

An eclectic mix of work is on display featuring the natural world, industrial landscapes and native flora and fauna.

The pieces range from Sylvie Dattas’ impressionistic nature scenes, to Janette Summerfield’s bold, bright and deceptively simple landscapes, to Stourbridge artist Pascale Bigot’s French landscapes, drawing on her training in her native France, giving a post-impressionistic feel.

Stourbridge News:

Councillor Khurshid Ahmed, Dudley Council’s cabinet member for planning and economic development, said: “This is the first time the Birmingham & Midland Pastels Society has exhibited at the Red House Glass Cone and we’re really glad to have them.

“Although all the artists are working in the same medium, the styles of the pieces vary greatly, from impressionistic to photo realism to truly modernist.

“All of the pieces are really bright, beautiful and uplifting and well worth a visit.”

All of the pieces displayed in the free exhibition – which runs until November 1 – are for sale and prices range from £120 to £750.
