THE family of a woman killed in a Lower Gornal car crash have spoken of their devastation at losing a “special, caring person and a fantastic mother".

Vikki Jones, aged 30, was driving in Wood Road, just after 10pm on Friday, September 22 when her car was in collision with a white BMW.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 21-year-old man was arrested from his home in Lower Gornal at around 3am the following morning on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Following his arrest, he was released while collision investigators carry out further enquiries.

A heartfelt tribute issued by Vikki’s family said: “On 22nd of September, we lost her. We lost the most beautiful, caring, loving, funny, kind hearted person you could ever wish to meet.

“She was a beautiful, strong, caring and loving person who had a massive heart and a love for life.

"She lived for her family, especially her daughter. She was a fantastic mother, and a brilliant role model."

The statement continued: “Vikki was one of those special people, the kind you don’t come across very often. Losing her has put a great big hole in all of our lives that can never be replaced.

“Vikki’s family would like to say a special thank you to the wonderful residents of Wood Road, who stayed with Vikki’s daughter until the emergency services arrived and who have since arranged a memorial service to honour Vikki ’s life.

"Also, to the emergency services who did everything in their power to help, the staff at the children’s ward of Russells Hall Hospital who looked after her daughter and also, to every single person who has donated money towards the cost of Vikki ’s funeral.

“Words cannot express how eternally grateful we are."

The candlelit memorial service will be held on Friday (October 6) in Wood Road.

It will start at 9.45pm, with a short celebration of Vikki's life before a two minute silence is held at 10pm.

People have also donated more than £2,500 to a GoFundMe page set up to help with funeral costs.

The initial £1,000 target was met within 48 hours and donations have continued to pour in over the last eight days.
