PEOPLE who are interested in Dudley borough’s heritage and history are being asked to share their knowledge and passion at local activities and events.

Volunteers are needed for a project being run as part of the township heritage scheme, which aims to increase appreciation of the borough’s town centres and its historic attractions.

Dudley Council is hosting a special event the archives centre to explain the range of opportunities available to volunteers and how they would be supported.

There will be speakers from the museum service, the archives and local history team and the borough archaeologist, while attendees will be able to sign up to the council’s database of volunteers on the day.

Councillor Ian Kettle, cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise, said: “The heritage volunteers programme is a great way for people who are passionate about local history and heritage to share their knowledge with a new audience.

“The free training from the adult and community learning team gives people the skills and confidence they need to take part in community events, and they can draw further inspiration from the council’s skilled and supportive museums and archives staff who will be there to talk to on the day.”

No experience of volunteering is necessary as there will be the opportunity to enrol on a free course with the adult and community learning team.

Those interested in becoming a heritage volunteer are invited to the information day on Saturday, February 3 from 10.30am until 1pm at the Dudley Archives and Local History Centre, in Tipton Road.
