A DISGRACED Dudley doctor who carried out a string of sex attacks on women patients at his Dudley surgery to fuel his illicit sexual needs has been warned he faces a lengthy spell behind bars.

Jaswant Rathore also faces being struck off by the General Medical Council for the assaults on four victims at Castle Meadows Surgery.

Rathore had denied 18 charges of sexual assault and a three-man nine-woman jury considered the evidence for nearly six-and-a-half hours at the end of the seven-week trial.

The panel found him guilty on a unanimous verdict of ten charges on four patients and they cleared him on the other eight (on four other patients).

Judge Michael Challinor remanded Rathore in custody until tomorrow (Thursday) telling him: “I need time to think about the sentence in this case.”

The judge said he understood the four victims also wanted to be present when the case was concluded and he told the doctor regrettably he must stay in custody because of the inevitable nature of the sentence.

Rathore, the court was told, inappropriately touched the women and his actions played no part in medical treatment for their problems.

The doctor went beyond what was proper treatment and it was an excuse for him to be allowed to touch patients sexually.

Now Rathore, of Ploughman’s Walk, Wall Heath, who showed no reaction as the panel returned their verdict, was previously clinical lead on Dudley CCG.

The doctor who qualified as a GP in 1985 maintained in evidence that everything he did was to try to ease their pain and discomfort – and it was totally appropriate for their problems.

Heidi Kubik, prosecuting, said the doctor clearly derived sexual pleasure from what he did and he abused the trust place in him by patients who had been left shocked and embarrassed.

The sex attacks took place during what Rathore described as “manipulation therapy” as he carried out massage for his patients’ medical problems.
