Other schools will be green with envy!

PUPILS at a Lower Gornal school turned green for the day to raise awareness of the environment.

Roberts Primary School held a green day where every child and staff member got into the spirit of things by dressing in green.

The aim of the day was to raise awareness of the environment and sustainability, with the children from Reception through to Year 6 taking part in fun activities, which included mini-beast hunting, art work and studies into habitat and waste.

But the highlight of the day was a whole school picnic out on the school field, which also included teachers, dinner ladies and office staff.

Everyone was asked to bring something green in their lunch box and there was also a prize for the class who had the least amount of litter afterwards.

Charlotte Wootton, eco-schools coordinator, said: “We all had a great day and the weather was brilliant.

“The children really enjoyed their picnic – we had 600 children on the field at one time.

“It was great to do something connected with the curriculum but was a lot of fun for everyone.”
