A TALENTED young Pensnett singer is hoping to wow competition judges this weekend as she takes part in the regional finals of Open Mic UK.
Sophie Harris, aged 13, will be competing against 20 other singers at the NEC in Birmingham on Saturday in a bid to win a place in the national finals at the O2 Arena in London next year – and potentially secure a recording contract.
The Kingswinford School pupil, who has also recently made her own fundraising CD for British Heart Foundation called Keep the Beat, is keeping her weekend’s audition piece a closely guarded secret, but wowed six judges at her previous audition with a performance of her own self-penned track.
Sophie’s mum, Vanessa, said: “I’m really proud of her. I was thrilled she got through to the regional finals as she thoroughly deserved it.
"She’s been practicing really hard and we are really excited for this weekend.”
