Scam Alert – 3rd July
Warning: Skype messages, emails misusing the name David Oram and Hill Dickinson

What is the scam?
The SRA (Solicitors Regulation Authority) has received information that members of the public have received Skype messages falsely claiming to be from Attorney David Oram/David Oram Law Firm at Hill Dickinson LLP. The messages relate to a purported unclaimed inheritance.
The message invites the recipient to contact the sender to discuss properties relating to the unclaimed inheritance using the email address officialfilelink2@turkmmo.com. The recipient is also directed to a website address www.turkmo.com.
The message sets out the sender’s contact details, giving the contact details for the genuine firm of Hill Dickinson LLP.
Mr David Oram is a solicitor employed by Hill Dickinson LLP. The genuine firm confirms it has no connection with David Oram Law Firm, and that the messages have not been sent by them or by Mr Oram, and that their names and contact details have been used without their permission or knowledge.
The SRA does not regulate a firm called David Oram Law Firm. Any business or transactions through the email address officialfilelink2@turkmmo.com, David Oram Law Firm or the website www.turkmo.com are not undertaken by a solicitor's practice or an individual authorised or regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
Hill Dickinson LLP is a genuine firm of solicitors which is authorised and regulated by the SRA. The firm's website is www.hilldickinson.com. The firm has a branch office at The Broadgate Tower, 20 Primrose Street, London, EC2A 2EW. The genuine telephone number for the firm is +44 (0)151 600 8000 and the fax number +44 (0)151 600 8001.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA (Solicitors Regulation Authority) to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
