A BROMSGROVE company and Barclays have helped a charity worker raise £7,014 for three children's cancer charities during a community event.

The Family Fun Day, at the Rose and Crown pub in Feckenham, boosted Sharon Simpson's fundraising efforts.

Bromsgrove-based marketing agency Superdream supported the event ,as did Barclay,s which offered match-funding.

The three beneficiaries of the money - Macmillan, Primrose Hospice and Birmingham Children's Hospital - have received the proceeds from the day and already planning how to spend the donations.

The money raised for Birmingham Children's Hospital will go directly towards the new cancer centre at the hospital, while the amount that is raised for Macmillan and the Primrose Hospice will go into their general funds.

The fun day featured a range of traditional activities, including games like hoopla and hook a duck, pony rides and a bouncy castle.

Ms Simpson said: "Organisation was the key to the event being so successful event - I had a lot of support from Rebecca Manning [wife of Superdream managing director Jason Manning] and Laura Lamb [Superdream's administration assistant] and together we managed to pull off a fantastic event with a little help from the weather.

"What made it special was that it was a real community event, where local families of all generations and local businesses came together for a really good cause and had lots of fun at the same time.

"Everyone, particularly the kids, enjoyed the day and I was really pleased by the show of community spirit to raise money for these good causes.

"We all know someone who has been affected by cancer - many of us have lost somebody close to us and know the huge impact that it has on not just the sufferer but their friends, family and loved ones.

"Fortunately, my son Joseph has not been affected by cancer but he has been saved three times by the Birmingham Children's Hospital neurosurgical team, so I can truly empathise with what families of cancer-suffers are going through and this is what drives me to co-ordinate these events."
