A PIONEERING Rowley Regis school has been recognised for its work in boosting pupils’ progress by working with parents.
Brickhouse Primary School has earned the Leading Parent Partnership Award for the range of support offered to mums and dads and is part of a national case study on the positive effect of parental partnership in schools.
The school offers support for parents and children together, runs workshops, learning lunches and busy breakfasts and parent and child after school clubs for them to learn together.
Parents can also take basic skills courses and a supporting teaching and learning in schools college course.
More than 40 volunteer parents help children with literacy and numeracy and extra special needs support as well as run a tuck shop, help on school trips, fundraising and social events.
Parent support advisor Carla Newby said the work had led to the school enjoying its best SATs results ever this year. Pupils are more willing to read and learn their spellings, special needs youngsters have shown improved progress and parents are able to support their children more at home.
“We are extremely proud of our parents and children at Brickhouse Primary for how they have grabbed these opportunities with both hands and taken the plunge,” she added.
