WEST Bromwich Albion football legend Tony ‘bomber’ Brown will talk to fans about his career when he appears at Halesowen Library tomorrow.

Tony Brown was a key part of the Baggies team through the 1960s and 1970s and will be at the Halesowen venue tomorrow along with Albion club secretary Alan Cleverley.

Brown joined West Brom as a youth in 1961 and turned professional in 1963. In the late sixties and early seventies he was part of an Albion team that built a reputation as a successful cup side, winning the 1966 League Cup and 1968 FA Cup.

He was the top scorer in Division One in 1970–71 and received his only England cap at the end of that season. He scored 279 goals in 720 competitive games for Albion during a career at the Hawthorns which ran for two decades.

Councillor Khurshid Ahmed, cabinet member responsible for libraries, said: “We are always looking to attract different kinds of talks and events to our libraries and we are delighted to welcome a true local football hero.

“Tony Brown is a legend at West Brom and I’m sure plenty of fans will be keen to go along and listen to stories from his career.”

The talk in the library’s Shenstone Theatre Level 7 will start at 7.15pm. Tickets, priced £3 including refreshments, are available by ringing 01384 812980.
