HALESOWEN dad turned children’s author Lee Howell will be at Cradley library for a special bedtime story event next week.

Children are invited to go along to the library in Colley Lane dressed in their pyjamas, nighties or onesies and have a drink and a cookie whilst listening to project manager Lee read his story Millie’s Magic Bed on Thursday January 31.

Lee, aged 39, of Drews Holloway, wrote Millie’s Magic Bed as a Christmas gift for his daughters, Millie aged six and Halle, aged one.

The story is centred around the real-life wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge - which Millie watched time and time again - and her new bed which takes her off on a magical journey to the palace.

The reading will take place at 6pm and will last approximately 45 minutes.

Afterwards children will have the opportunity to borrow a copy of the book to take home from the library or buy a signed copy.

Printed by American publisher Trafford, the book has sold hundreds of copies, not only in the UK but in countries such as the US and Canada.

Councillor Khurshid Ahmed, cabinet member for housing, libraries and adult learning said: “It is well documented that reading to children is an important part of a child’s development.

“Readings like this with authors in a local library can add that little extra bit of magic and really bring the book to life for children.

“It is fantastic news that a book written by a local author is doing so well and I hope that parents are able to take their children down to enjoy the reading.”
