A GOLD achieving Halesowen teenager had a royal date at St James’ Palace to recieve the highest level Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Liam Dimmock was presented with the prestigious gold award by the Earl of Wessex Prince Edward during a ceremony at the London palace last week.

The 18-year-old Earls Collegiate student worked tirelessly through the five sections of his DofE programme to achieve the award which included an 80k four-day trek through the Lake District.

He took part in a week long residential in Epping Forest carrying out conservation work with London City Council such as replacing bridges and rebuilding pond banks.

Liam also gained his brown and white belts in jiu-jitsu, leant to drive, and is now an assistant beaver leader at 1st Halesowen Scout Group.

He said: “Gaining my gold award has given me confidence in myself to be a good leader and shown me the importance of being an effective team member.”
