BIG-hearted Halesowen nurse Stacey Smart is a cut above the rest after plucking up the courage to have 13 inches of her blonde locks chopped off for charity.

The 26-year-old Russells Hall Hospital nurse has raised more than £400 for Cancer Research UK in memory of her grandmother who died from disease.

She has also donated her unwanted locks to the Little Princess Trust which makes wigs for youngsters who loose their hair as a result of cancer treatment.

As a nurse, she has seen a lot of people who have lost their hair through cancer and her mother endured 11 operation for breast cancer.

“I’ve had long hair all my life. It’s what people know me for - I get called Blondie and Goldilocks,” said a nervous Miss Smart before she went under the scissors of hairdresser aunt Tress Carpenter.

But afterwards, feeling a lot cooler, the relieved mother-of-one said: “I’m really, really happy with it. Everyone says it really suits me and when all the sponsor money is in I’ll have raised just over £400 for the charity.”

Even four-year-old Harrison, was impressed with his mum’s new look.
