A FATHER from Oldbury punched and headbutted his partner in a brutal street attack in front their young child, a court heard.

Jailing Craig Williams for 10 months, Recorder John Edwards described the assault as “boorish and bullying behaviour”.

The 39-year-old, of Twydale Avenue, admitted assault by beating and breaching a suspended 12-month jail sentence for dangerous driving.

Mark Rees, prosecuting, said Williams was travelling home by bus with 36-year-old Donna Pritchard with whom he had had an"on-off relationship".

Williams told her - "I am going to smash your face in" - and when they got off the bus with their child, who was in a pushchair, he grabbed her by the neck and squeezed.

She fell over when he struck her in the face and as she scrambled to her feet he then butted her on the forehead, Miss Pritchard broke free and flagged down a passing police car. A short time later the officers arrested Williams who was pushing the baby in the pushchair.

Sarah Hurd, defending. said Williams who had been "dabbling" with Class A drugs lost his temper but was hoping he and Miss Pritchard could be reconciled.
