£1,000 donation boosts borough toy appeal

BIG-HEARTED businessman Geoff Hill has again donated £1,000 towards this year’s Operation Santa Toy Appeal to help underprivileged kids across the borough.
Geoff Hill, who owns Geoff Hill Electrical Superstore in Amblecote, has for many years traditionally given the cause a boost – to inspire others to back the appeal which spreads festive cheer to needy kids by giving gifts and staging Christmas parties.
The money donated by Mr Hill will help to put on festive parties for hundreds of youngsters living in households below the poverty line - which have been organised by Dudley Council for Voluntary Service (DCVS).
Others helped by this year's appeal can expect to receive a gift donated by big-hearted individuals and businesses across the borough.
Toys, games, books, DVDs and selection boxes have been coming in thick and fast at collection centres across at Dudley Council, West Midlands Police, the Hope Centre in Halesowen, Blaze Hairdressing Salon in Kingswinford and the Geoff Hill Electrical Superstore, in Amblecote High Street, which means more than 2,000 children aged up to 16 can look forward to receiving a gift in time for Christmas this year.
Mr Hill, a long-time supporter of the initiative, said: “This appeal is so important - the toys go to kids who otherwise wouldn't have a present at all."
Appeal co-ordinator Eileen Fielding from DCVS said: "I think we've done really well; better than expected this year given the economic climate."
The collection points have all now closed but last-minute gift donations can be dropped off at Dudley CVS Volunteer Centre, 7 Albion Street, Brierley Hill, DY5 3EE, until Friday (December 13).
