THE majority of Sandwell residents' bin collections will be on their normal day over the Christmas and New Year holidays.

The only changes will be for residents whose usual bin collections are on a Wednesday or a Thursday.

Wednesday bin collections that fall on Christmas Day and New Year's Day will be collected on the following Saturday instead (December 28 and January 4).

Thursday bin collections that fall on Boxing Day will be collected on Sunday December 29 instead.

All other bin collections will be on their normal day.

Sandwell Council's cabinet member for highways and environment Councillor Maria Crompton said: "We all produce more rubbish and recycling at Christmas, so it's good news that most people's bin collections will remain unchanged.

"We want people to make really good use of their food waste bin and main recycling bin this Christmas, and put as little as possible in the grey bin.

"You can cut up cardboard boxes or fold them down and squash cans to help make more space in your blue lid bin."

Residents are reminded that the fortnightly garden waste collection service has a two-week break between December 23 and January 3 2014 when there will be no garden waste collections.

Residents can recycle their real Christmas trees by putting them inside or next to the garden waste bin on their next collection day after January 3.

The tip in Shidas Lane, Oldbury, is open every day of the year except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
