A MONTH on the wagon for a Halesowen nursery nurse raised more than £1,000 for Cancer Research UK.
Rachel Hill was stunned by the generosity of friends and family as she rocketed passed her original £300 target.
The 37-year-old mother-of-two, of Mendip Road, laid off the booze during January in support of the charity’s Dryathon, making do with lime and soda when out with friends.
She raised £1,193 in memory of her uncle, Brian “Ruby” Bissell, from Halesowen, who died two years ago from cancer, aged 64.
And her challenge was made more poignant when she lost her friend Nicola Tibbetts, aged 35, to ovarian cancer last month.
Miss Hill, who has also raised £700 running in two of Cancer Research’s Races for Life, gave £100 of her Dryathon proceeds to her friend’s family for their cancer charity.
