A CONCERT is being planned to raise funds to create a sensory and wheelchair-friendly garden at an Oldbury day centre for adults with learning and physical disabilities.

Black Country fundraising charity Love2Give, run by Pete Jackson and Steve Grove, has taken up the gauntlet to raise the cash and spearhead the work that is needed at Acorn Lodge.

Care support worker Emma Lennon said staff had started the project but, after putting up fencing and laying slabs and grass seed, had run out of cash.

She said: “We can only get a couple of wheelchairs out there at a time and it’s not very appealing.”

The Vicarage Road centre is run by non-profit making voluntary organisation Options for Life to help adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities and complex health needs to live full lives within the community.

Love 2Give plans to help out by building raised beds, leveling out the lawn area so more wheelchair users can enjoy the garden, adding a water feature and a shady area to reduce the risk of sunburn.

Miss Lennon said the sensory garden will “provide a stimulating and beneficial environment” for the centre users.

She added: “We are ecstatic about what is planned, really, really happy.”

The concert will take place at Dudley’s Copthorne Hotel on Saturday May 31 with Simon Webbe and Duncan James from boy band Blue topping the bill.

Support acts will include X-Factor finalists Kitty Brucknell and Kriss Marco, plus singer/songwriter Faye Bagley.

Mr Jackson said: “It’s great what they do at Acorn Lodge and we are delighted to be able to help.”

Unreserved seats for the gig are £20 and a diamond VIP ticket, costing £75, will include a champagne meet and greet and photo with the performers.
