SIX Black Country friends in the midst of mid-life crisis have decided against buying sports cars or having affairs and decided to raise cash for charity by climbing mountains instead.

Chris Gennard, Spencer Scriven, Duncan Evans, Phil Smith, Lee Turner and Mark Houghton are doing the Three Peaks Challenge on June 8 and have already raised over £2,000.

Accountant Chris, aged 46, said: "As part of our mid-life crisis, we are calling ourselves Idiots at Home and have decided to undertake a number of events and personal challenges to raise funds for three charities close to our hearts Sense, Macmillan Cancer Support and Acorns.

"We will be undertaking various other fund raising events prior to and following the Three Peaks Challenge so any donations concerning any of these will be gratefully accepted. We have not put any ceiling or expectations on our fund raising."

The gang who hail from Halesowen, Stourbridge and Blackheath are also being helped by designated drivers Steve Hill and Julian Bishop.

The group's next event is on Saturday, May 17 at Old Hill Cricket Club and is a race night with local band Madads providing the music, tickets cost £7.50 and include fish and chips.

The Three Peaks Challenge takes place on June 8 and involves climbing Ben Nevis, Scaffell Pike and Snowdon in 24 hours.
