A SERVANTS' bedroom is the latest attraction for summer visitors to Cradley Heath's Haden Hill House Museum.

A room in the Victorian gentleman's house, which was propbably once used as servants accommodation more than a century ago, has been kitted out as it would have been.

Museum services manager Jane Hanney said: "As the house was once a conference centre much of the servants' areas of the house have been lost. We opened our housekeeper's parlour around eight years ago now and thought it was time for a new way of telling the servants' story at the house.

"The room that is now the servant's bedroom has been used as offices and storage in the time that Haden Hill House has been a museum, but we needed a good clear out and tidy up and to re-arrange our storage and felt that we could open up one of the rooms to visitors.

"Staff at the museum put the room together during the winter closed period with objects we have in storage at the house as well as some new items such as the servants' iron beds which we needed to purchase."

Victorian servants' bedrooms were clean and functional, but would probably have been like luxury compared to cramped, damp and overcrowed terrace housing many people would have lived in in the Black Country.

The servants' bedroom can be viewed during normal house opening hours - Thursday and Friday 10am until 5pm and Saturday and Sunday from 2pm until 6pm Entrance is free.
