She said: " It’s that time of the year again when one charity finishes and another starts.

"We are calling on customers to cast their votes and help a registered charity receive a tears worth of fundraising and awareness support.

"Until Sunday, June 8 customers will be able to vote for their favourite local charity either instore or by visiting www.sainsburys.co.uk/localcharity."

She added: "The scheme is now in it’s 6th year and when voting ends a short list will be drawn up and the top three charities will be invited into store to talk about how Sainsbury’s can support them."

Charities which have benefited in the past include Live at Home, Ups and Downs and Loaves and Fishes which have gone from strength to strength."
