BOOTY taken from criminals by the police has been turned into a cash windfall for Old Hill Cricket club just two months after the club suffered a terrifying robbery.

West Midlands Police donated £1,000 to the club from the Police Property Act fund which comprising of money raised from the sale of property confiscated from criminals.

Old Hill Cricket Club was chosen for the cash windfall due to the stellar work it does with youngsters in Sandwell.

Youngsters play at county and district competitive levels and money will go towards buying new nets for the cricket pitch.

On Sunday, April 13 a member of staff and three customers were locked in a refrigerated cellar as a masked gang robbed the club house at the Haden Park Road cricket club. The club, which was founded in 1884, is on the road back to financial recovery after a slump in takings due to last year's poor weather.

PCSO Adam Blackford visited Old Hill club to hand over the cheque.

He said: "I am delighted to be donating this money to a group which has such a positive effect for youngsters in our local community.

"We work closely with the younger members of to offer advice on staying safe while responding to any issues affecting them and their peers.

He added: "This club gives young people a fantastic opportunity get involved in a positive sporting activity, whilst learning discipline and increasing determination and fitness."

Over the past five years West Midlands Police has donated over £5 million to community groups from the Police Property Act Fund.
