A SHADOW Government minister met parents and toddlers duding a fact-finding tour of a Rowley Regis children’s centre.

Lucy Powell, shadow minister for childcare and children toured the Rowley Hall Happy Faces Centre,  to see the work it does to help families.

Such centres were a flagship policy of the last Labour Government and  the centre, run by Health for Living was graded ‘good’ by Ofsted inspectors in April.

The MP spoke with families who use the centre, which provides services ranging from baby massage classes to cook-well sessions.

She also joined in with a ‘stay and play’ session before meeting representatives from Health for Living, which manages eight children’s centres in Sandwell.

Miss Powell said: “It was really interesting to visit Happy Faces Children's Centre. I heard about all the great work they do supporting families in the area.

“The Labour Party hugely invested in children's centres and the vital work they do. The staff I met clearly do a tremendous job and the parents I talked to value this a great deal.”
