UNSUNG carers in Dudley borough were handed a treat this week when they visited Russells Hall Hospital.

They were handed specially made coffee cups containing tea bags and a biscuit as a thank you from health chiefs.

The carers were also provided with information on how to access support.

Carer co-ordinator Sharon McGlynn said: "Many carers simply see themselves as helping out a friend or relative with everyday tasks and don't realise they've become a carer.

"These people make up thousands of hidden carers in the UK who don't receive support, advice or benefits available to them."

The scheme was run through Healthwatch Dudley together with Dudley's branch of the Royal Voluntary Service who were looking to identify people looking after a loved one who don't access the support services on offer.
